Self referral
You do not need to be referred by your GP to use our services, just book an appointment.
Our services are confidential
We do not use your name on any of our records. On registration with us, our system will allocate a seven digit unique number to you that we shall use to label your test specimens. We use a secure electronic system that is only available to a limited number of staff at UHB. Access to our data is heavily monitored by sophisticated security systems. You can even choose for us not to send a summary of your clinic visit to your GP when booking an appointment. Under exceptional circumstances, we may need to share some of your results with other GUM clinics. In those cases, we will always inform you in advance.
Who should attend our clinics?
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are common in the UK. The majority of STIs do not cause any symptoms and therefore it is important to be tested for STIs. More than 90% of patients attending our clinics want peace of mind after having had unprotected sex some time in their life. Our advice is that anyone should be tested for an STI after unprotected sex, even if they don't have any symptoms.
You should attend our clinic urgently if your partner has informed you that they have been diagnosed with an STI.
Making an appointment
Our automated telephone booking line also provides the option to speak to a member of our reception staff during our opening hours, or you can use our confidential online booking system for more flexibility in your appointment choice.
We also offer a number of walk-in slots throughout our morning, afternoon and evening sessions. Please be advised that there a limited number of these during each session but we will aim to see you as quickly as possible. Your wait may be longer if you do not have an appointment; please allow at least 90 minutes for the duration of your visit.
